aVoid
Choose when to be heard. A ping reveals a dark room for a moment and tells its sentries where you are standing.
Version: 0.8.0+b7.m4.528e69dab4
Type: Real-time 3D Game Engine / Progressive Web App (PWA)
Domain: Games / Stealth and Audio
Purpose & Origins
aVoid started as an experiment. What happens to a first-person game when you can't see in first person? Shooters and stealth games lean almost entirely on the view down the barrel. Take the view away, and the question becomes how much of that genre survives on sound and memory alone. The answer turned into a game about choosing when to be heard. A ping shows you the room for a moment, and it also tells everything in the dark where you are standing.
Architecture & Technology
aVoid is a browser application written in TypeScript and rendered with Three.js on WebGL 2, with no server and no network calls. The simulation runs at a fixed 60 steps per second and is deterministic, so the same seed always plays out the same way. It uses purpose-built collision in place of a physics engine, which cut the download from 2.8 MB to about 670 KB. Levels are generated in the browser from a seed. Each one carries a proof of at least three separate routes to the exit, and a room graph decides which rooms light and sound can travel between. Every sound is synthesised live with Web Audio, from positional sentry voices to the drones that rise with heat. The entire world draws in six calls per frame. Campaign progress lives in localStorage and replay ghosts in IndexedDB, both only on your machine.
Scope & Uniqueness
Most stealth games show you the map and ask you to stay hidden. aVoid gives you no map and asks you to choose when to be heard. It ships a fourteen-level campaign in three acts, Endless runs that grow harder with depth, a daily seed shared by everyone, and ghost replays of your best runs. It installs as an offline web app and supports touch and gamepad. It has a photosensitivity mode and a sound radar for deaf and hard-of-hearing players. The author describes scripted-player checks before release to establish that each level can be won and that its danger is fair.
The supplied hosted build is 0.8.0+b7.m4.528e69dab4, labelled “M4: Endless and platform”. It includes a static page, bundled modules and offline assets. The campaign, deterministic generation and release-validation details above describe the author’s design and development process; they are not a claim that those separate source tests were run here.
