vortaye.app

A severe-weather workbench. Real-time vortex mechanics and recreations of notable historical tornadoes, with CAPE, shear and helicity as direct controls, built for someone who asked for it.

Type: 3D Severe Weather Simulator / Single Page Application (SPA)
Domain: Atmospheric Dynamics / Historical Recreations

Purpose & Origins

vortaye.app came from another family request, this time for a tornado simulator. It is a sandbox for severe weather: change the conditions and watch the vortex respond as you do it, or step through recreations of notable historical tornadoes and look at the conditions and the storm structure that made each of them significant.

Architecture & Technology

The simulation runs a particle model in your browser. It tracks how the air rotates, where the funnel becomes visible as the moisture condenses, and where debris is thrown. The historical events map their recorded Fujita and Enhanced Fujita ratings, track paths and estimated wind shear onto that model as it runs. All the physics is computed on your own machine in typed arrays, which keeps the framerate high and needs nothing from a server.

Scope & Uniqueness

Weather simulations are usually one of two things: academic tools locked inside specialised desktop software, or shallow mobile games built around a monetization loop. vortaye.app is a hands-on vortex workbench that opens in any browser.
